Say No To Ugly People...

Launched today:

NEW MAGAZINE "ELIXIR" – WORLD'S FIRST QUALITY CONSUMER GLOSSY DEVOTED TO BRINGING YOU WHAT'S HOT IN ANTI-AGING AND REJUVENATION

Why do we need this? Asked John Humphrys, on this morning's Today Programme on radio 4.

Because we'd much rather look at attractive people than unattractive people, replied Avril O'Connor.

I have never heard John Humphrys laugh quite so loudly.

Avril O'Connor is editor of Elixir. Not for much longer, I suspect...

Ms M, is there someting wrong with your radio? Did you accidently retune to Radio Four whilst trying to work the cig lighter?

Avril, oh dear what have you done. Who the fuck do you think reads your crappy rag? Not the beautiful people, they don't need to. No, it's us uglies who WOULD have read it(not really, just making the point).

Imperfects and asthetically challenged of the world, arise and unite against all this shit, it's easy just don't buy the mags, creams, fat pants or "proceedures" they try to sell us.

Stay home and smash your mirrors.

Boris, you are quite the anarchist and that makes you a very welcome visitor here. I have just had my second 'timesonline' mention, and am very concerned that I am being mistaken for a conservative in some quarters. Please keep visiting with your radical views and call to arms. Should we form an anarcho-syndicalist ugly cell?

Glad you spotted this, Ms M. The Anti-Aging industry really bugs me, especially as my SO spends so much time and money on the damn thing.

I enjoyed the response by John Humphrys. He got me chuckling as well. Come to think of it, my laughter lines probably just got deeper - and I'm soooooo glad!

Ah, glad you heard it! She retracted pretty quickly, didn't she, when she realised she had made a total arse of herself? Did you notice that she described 'Elixir' as a magazine for people with a 'zest for life', in such a bored, flat, monotone I suspected she was writing her shopping list whilst being interviewed. I was already laughing by then. I don't think she's long for the job. (I also refrained from linking to her picture on the site, because I would have felt compelled to comment on how she would look much better if she chose to age with grace rather than go for the '10 yrs younger' look. Ouch. I said it. Does that make me as bad as her?)

We live in a crap society. Let's all hide behind our puters for fear that people may actually see our faces and laugh. I don't think that I want to grow old anymore.

Did you hear Paul Abbott on radio 4 DID? He is fabulous.

I did hear Paul Abbott - (you may have noticed that I have radio 4 broadcasting directly into my ears via a transmitter which I have had surgically implanted.) He was fantastic. I was very moved by his story, and inspired by his compulsion to write despite his lack of education. I had no idea that he had bi-polar. Did he grow up in Wythenshawe, by the way? I missed the first part of the interview. I used to work in Wythenshawe, and I have always imagined it as the setting for Shameless.

I missed the beginning too. Husband came into office saying, 'you really should be listening to this.'
I understood so much of what he was saying. Quite inspiring, me thinks.

What happened to growing old graciously? What is this quest for eternal youth? Are people afraid of dying or looking wrinkly. If so, why? Help!

Ms Melancholy said...

Atyllah, if only we knew the answer to these questions....perhaps you will enlighten us when you find out?

Perhaps Avril has recently come back from a trip to LA where these kind of conversations on the radio are absolutely normal. Nobody here would blink an eye over what she said. Here, Avril would be getting a raise and a promotion.

How scary is that? Nipped and tucked to within an inch of her life, I think she should relocate. Thanks for calling in, Liz x
