On Mothers and Daughters....(Part IV)

The Mother is very, very worried about me. The Mother wants me to give up blogging. Blogging, apparently, is very dangerous. Blogging is very dangerous because it involves t'internet, which is populated entirely by terrorists, paedophiles and pornographers.

This latest outburst of maternal concern was prompted by the fact that I told her I had met up with some bloggers. I met these terrorists, paedophiles and pornographers bloggers at Caroline's book launch in Manchester in June. I returned home unscathed. If any of the bloggers who attended Caroline's launch would like to identify which particular category they belong to, however, I would greatly appreciate it.

I also drove in my car today, which statistically puts me at significantly greater risk of harm than writing words which other people sometimes read. But driving does not involve the internet, so that's ok.

Very dangerous, t'internet.

Full of weirdos, as well you know.

In fact, I've heard that before Tim Berners Lee came up with this ridiculous bit of technology, nobody ever came to any harm.

Children played in the streets, people left their doors open and doctors and police officers only worked 3 days a week.

Those were the days ...

Blogging while driving, though. That's got to be dangerous. Don't do it!

I terrorised a black cat today, Ms Melancholy. It keeps trying to come through the cat flap and eating my cat's food. I flapped my arms and made strange noises. I'm mean with the silverfish too. Say hi to your Mother from me.

Surely your Mother is too old to be a Blair Babe, although she sounds like one! Does she have a television? For her own peace of mind, she should get rid of it immediately. And cancel the newspapers [Daily Mail? Sun?].

I blame it all on the irresponsible criminals who discovered how to kindle fire and invented the wheel. If the human race had been restricted to keeping warm through 'natural' means of conserving body heat, and could only move by foot, the world would be a far less terrifying place!

well Miss M I'm glad you take the risk! I can't own up to belonging to any of those categories, does being a middle-aged woman having a midlife crisis warrant disclosure?

Surely the very worst thing you could do is to use your mobile phone whilst blogging. It's just selfish, thoughtless and potentially dangerous for yourself and for anyone else who happens to be blogging.

Hey lovely Stray, my mother always used to leave her door open, apparently (mind you, they did get burgled several times...)

Hi b, thanks for the tip! Will stop immediately.

Hey Signs, so you are the terrorist? Thanks so much for coming out. (BTW, I left a long message on your 'therapy' post the other day which didn't appear for some reason! Anyway, you have my best wishes!)

Hi anticant, funny! Very funny indeed! (And it's the Daily Express, by the way. Ouch!)

Hey Bindi, me too! me too! (See next post....)

Hey there trousers, I hadn't thought of that. I am so sorry. I promised I will never endanger the lives of other bloggers again.

Oh I wish I'd seen it! I can only apologise, like a good terrorist, and wish that my blog didn't do things like that. It hasn't for ages. But I would have been particularly interested in your view. Contact with ethics board has been (how can I put it?) - underwhelming.

Just going to shoot a few people - as one does.

Really sorry to hear that, Signs. Will email you....

Perhaps you should convince your mum to start a blog? I did. She is completely addicted now...

Ah, the temptations of evil...

(cue: maniacal laugh)

Terrorists! Paedophiles! All of you!

Oh, the mothers, Ms M, the mothers...

I would just like to prove your mum right by going, "Wooo-oooh! Woo-ooooh" in a scary way.

My mum doesn't get me blogging either. She keeps on saying, "Why don't you just write short stories?"

I thought that's what I did, but no...

Thanks for this, Ms Melancholy. It really made me laugh and reminded me of a lot of the messages my mum still gives me about staying safe.

If she knows I am going away, she insists on a daily text from me to make sure I haven't been kidnapped by the bogeyman.

It reminds me of being asked at school a seven year old what happened on Halloween. I put up my hand and said earnestly, "bad men come out of the bushes and attack you." Still, at least it showed I was listening to the old dear lol.
